Oil and Gas
Lougheed is advantageously located in proximity to Edmonton and near the South Athabasca Oil Sands area, which has a projected production of over 3.4 million barrels of oil per day. Numerous opportunities exist due to the Lougheed’s proximity to the “Hardisty Hub”, the central pipeline hub where the majority of Alberta’s oil production converges for transportation to North American energy markets.
Lougheed has primarily been a farming community due in large part to the area’s fertile soils. Today, agriculture continues to be one of the most important sectors in the region. Mixed crops in the region include coarse grains such as wheat, oats, barley, canola and other oil seeds. The region is home to several greenhouse operations and a large number of cattle, dairy, hog and poultry farms.
Lougheed provides easy access to all major markets including developing oil and gas exploration projects. The Village is committed to providing opportunities for sustainable growth. Housing is moderately priced and lots are available for new construction. In addition, we offer lower land costs and lower tax rates than many areas and provide an excellent infrastructure for business development.
